An unseasonably cold chill and rain hung over the Santa Clarita Valley on Thursday, with temperatures in the low 60-degree range that were expected to jump today into the 70s.

On Thursday, high winds reached 10 to 15 mph. National Weather Service officials said the reason for this cold weather is a blast of cold air from the Gulf of Alaska that came down and was moving east.

At the Valencia Town Center on Thursday, the chilly air had forced many to bundle up - a surprise to some.

Kristina Marzinzik, 16, of Saugus, didn't expect she'd need to wear her sweatshirt until she went outside.

"I wasn't wearing a jacket," she said. "I got dressed for an 80-degree day."

Anthony Falcon, 29, of Woodland Hills, strutted around wearing a tank top. The weather was no match for the Northern California native.

"It's nice to have a chill now and then," said Falcon, who works at the mall's movie theater. "I don't think I'm cold in this weather."

He said the rain may ruin his plans to shoot a spoof music video on Beyonce's hit, "Single Ladies," later in the day. It'll be called "All the Pregnant Ladies," he said.

Today, temperatures are expected to be sunny with a high near 72. Winds should be between 5 and 10 mph. Memorial Day weekend is expected to be sunny.
