Sad, but not surprised

It was with great sadness that I read your article, "Mother shares son's heroin death to make others aware" (April 28). However, I was not surprised.

In 2006, a 15-year-old boy in our neighborhood overdosed on methadone. Countless calls and visits were made to the Sheriff's Department by a number of people on the street regarding drug activity at the house.

It was a year-and-a-half downward spiral of increasing drug abuse with no credible response from law enforcement. This was discussed and documented at the April 25, 2006, Santa Clarita City Council meeting.

Also, a letter to the editor published in the June 23, 2006, edition of the The Signal summarized the incident and stated that deputies had been called and still nothing was done.

How many more young people must die before we get the attention of law enforcement when calls are made regarding drug use? Is money the issue, or is law enforcement simply focused elsewhere?
