Authorities on Wednesday were searching for an alleged Newhall gang member on parole who reportedly fled from detectives while carrying a loaded gun.

Johnny Martinez, 21, of Newhall, is described as a Hispanic man with shaved black hair, brown eyes, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 200 pounds with tattoos on his face.

On May 14, Martinez and another alleged gang member on parole, Juan Gutierrez, 29, were walking in an alley along Second Street in Newhall. Deputies spotted the two and stopped to check up on them, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station statement.

Gutierrez stayed while Martinez allegedly fled, scaling a wall to get away. The deputies followed and found a loaded gun, but not Martinez.
Gutierrez had a knife, the statement said, and was arrested and was being held in lieu of more than $1 million bail.

Martinez has ties to at least two locations in Newhall, including the 24600 block of Newhall Avenue and the 22300 block of Second Street, authorities said.

Anyone with specific information about the case can contact Detective Dorman of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA team at (661) 799-5176. Anonymous tips can be given at (661) 284-2847.
