The Santa Clarita Valley prides itself as a safe community with low crime rates.

To help maintain community safety and heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will host a “National Night Out” Against Crime event in Newhall on Aug. 5.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, more than 11,000 communities participate in the nationwide event, which promotes community safety.

“It is the strong partnership between emergency services and our residents that makes the city of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley such a great and safe place to live, work, and play,” sheriff’s Capt. Anthony La Berge said in a statement. “We look to continue our efforts and strengthen our public safety commitment, and we hope you will bring your families out and join us.”

Attending this year’s event will be the Sheriff’s Posse, McGruff the Crime Dog, the SCV Sheriff Station’s Search and Rescue Team, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and child fingerprinting services. Refreshments and games will also be provided.

The focus of the event will be to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local crime prevention efforts and programs, and send a message that our neighborhoods and residents are organized and vigilant.

“National Night Out” will be held at the Newhall Community Center located at 22421 Market Street, on Aug. 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

For additional information regarding the event, contact Deputy Laurie Baylis at (661) 799-5164 or Sgt. Gregg Lewison at (661) 799-5158.
