North Facing Side of the Wall of the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Aquatic Center.

The city of Santa Clarita is seeking an artist or team of artists to create a permanent, outdoor mural that will be situated prominently at the Aquatic Center on a large wall connected to the main building. Both North & South facing sides of this wall must be used for the artwork. The goal is to incorporate visual elements within the site as an enhancement to the Aquatic Center's pool area.

The proposed location for the artwork is at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway. The artwork will be visible to motorists as they travel on Golden Valley Road, as well as those that enter the Sports Complex driveway. The wall that the mural will be placed on is attached to the main Aquatics Center building adjacent to the Activity Pool area. This significant outdoor program of artwork will be highly visible and must complement its surroundings.

The following project goals will help guide the selection of the commissioned artwork:
1. Artwork is of an original, site-specific design(s).
2. Artwork is created using durable, low maintenance material that will withstand the hot weather and other elements of Santa Clarita.
3. Artwork is complementary to the overall context of the surrounding area.

Artists interested in being considered should submit the following application materials by July 1, 2010:
1. Letter of Interest: The letter should be no more than one page in length and should explain the artist
(team) interest in the project.
2. Current resume: If submitting as a team, a current resume should be submitted for each team member.
3. Three examples of the artist's work: Art examples may be in any visual medium or a combination of media, such as photographs, slides, computer prints, etc. Each art example must be clearly labeled with the artist's name, the title of the piece, and medium.
4. SASE: A self-addressed stamped envelope must be included for the return of application materials.
5. Optional: The artist may include up to three selections of support materials such as reviews, news articles, and other related information.

July 1 is the deadline to submit materials to the Arts and Events Office (Note: This is the deadline it must be at the Office; if mailing submittal, allow appropriate delivery time.)
