You have to laugh

You just have to laugh as the Republican Party's internal ideological battle, a tug of war between the racists/liars and the bewildered has been on full display.

Despite the GOP's expected short-term gains this fall - largely owed to the nation's high unemployment rate - problems still lurk for the party's long-term stability. They could be fading away or breaking in two.

Republicans' ideological civil war is hilarious and great fodder for comedy: Voting against the health bill, Arizona immigration law, Michael Steele, tea partiers, Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Charlie Crist becoming an Independent, Glenn Beck, etc.

It's all good.

Bolstered by the tea party movement, the party of "no" has largely shown an unwillingness to negotiate across the aisle or offer any valid ideas. It wants to get back in power not govern and make that crystal clear to everyone but the non-critical thinkers.

While a number of the "leadership" has flip-flopped on their stated principles - like John McCain - and gone hard right (in order to retain power, not govern), you have to understand former presidents Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln or even George H.W.
Bush would not be electable today.

On top of it all, the John Birch Society is back in with the Republicans, too.

Is this a great country or what?
