Arthritis Walk set for Sunday

The Let’s Move Together 2010 Arthritis Walk in the Park for the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys will take place Sunday at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Thousands of people from the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys and the Greater Los Angeles area are expected to attend, according to a statement released by event sponsor Arthritis Foundation.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. The walk begins at 9 a.m.

Walkers can choose from a 1-mile or 3-mile course. Funds raised in the walk will support research in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis. The walk will feature a festival zone, a kids’ zone, live entertainment and refreshments. Details are available at the walk’s website,

Let’s Move Together is a nationwide movement sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation. Nine walks will be held in California and Hawaii during May and June.

Physical activity such as walking is crucial to managing joint pain, improving mobility and reducing fatigue for people with arthritis, according to Manuel Loya, chief executive officer of the Arthritis Foundation’s Pacific Region, in the statement.

Arthritis, the leading cause of disability, affects more than 46 million adults and nearly 300,000 children nationwide, according to the foundation.
