Hart Gives Up 104

The Hart High boys basketball team scored 21 more points than it had all season Wednesday night in the wild-card round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs and it still was nine points too few.

The Indians, coming into the game allowing an average of 56 points per contest, allowed A.B. Miller to surpass the century mark in a 104-95 loss in Fontana.
A monster effort by Hart junior Park Dominguez, who had 26 points and 16 rebounds was in vain, as the Foothill League's fourth-place team lost to the Citrus Belt League's No. 4.
"We didn't play defense," said Hart head coach Tom Kelly. "We tried to outduel them."
Usually a solid defensive team, Hart had not given up more than 82 points in a contest this year and held teams under 60 points in 17 of its 27 games coming in.
Kelly said his team's willingness to buy into Miller's high-scoring pace and Miller's ability to knock down long-distance shots were the big difference.
Jonanthan Jury led the Rebels with 23 points. Deondre Brodie added 21 points and Michael Cardenas added 20.
"They scored in bunches and they shot the three really well," Kelly said. "They made us play a game that we don't usually play. That really sums it up."
It ruined a breakout offensive performance for a team which had been averaging 61 points per game and whose previous season-high was 74 points.
Dominguez's offensive outburst was backed up by 18 points each by Brad Whyche and Chris Gill and 15 points from point guard Levi Wenrich.
The Indians had entered the game with solid momentum, coming off back-to-back league wins including an upset over Saugus Friday which ruined Saugus' league title chances.
Miller will now move on to play No. 13 La Habra Friday at La Habra in the first round.
The Indians end the season with a 19-9 overall record.
