The Child & Family Center is "Going Green Fore the Kids" at its 10th annual Golf Invitational on Monday, July 14 at the Tournament Players Club Valencia, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Going Green is a topic of particular health concern to children, and the Child & Family Center has chosen to encourage the community to hear the environmental message and follow it in honor of the more than 600 children assisted by the center each week.

"This will be a great tournament," said co-chair Anna Ott, who is also a board member of the Child & Family Center Foundation, a devoted golfer, and owner of Bellasport at Valencia Town Center. "We'll begin in the cool of the morning and finish with a fabulous lunch designed by TPC Executive Chef Daniel Otto. The players and sponsors will be given a terrific day of golf and friendship as well as the knowledge that their recreation and financial investment will support the very real needs of the kids at Child & Family."

The Child & Family Center, now in its 32nd year of operation, assists children and families within the Santa Clarita Valley community struggling with behavioral and emotional health issues. The center's 19 programs include counseling, crisis intervention, support groups, parenting classes, and drug and alcohol prevention and treatment, among others. The summer Golf Invitational is one of three major annual fundraising events for the center, joining Taste of the Town in May and Kid Expo in October.

"We have arranged a fun day for everyone who loves golf," said Diane Ayres, event co-chair, Foundation Board member, COC professor, and avid golfer. But this fun day has a very serious concern: the health of our community's children. Child & Family Center is the only Department of Mental Health facility in the Santa Clarita Valley, and its success in aiding hundreds of kids rests with the support of the people who believe in the mission. "We ask that everyone come out and help us raise funds for a very worthy cause," Ayres said.

Child & Family Center is looking for sponsors and players, with prices ranging from $250 for a tee sign and $350 for an individual golfer to $5,000 and $10,000 for major sponsorships.
