College of the Canyons Dance Department will perform a section of "Laundromatinee" at the Newhall Laundromat on Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

COC dance students will also host open rehearsals May 10, 12, 17 and 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

"Laundromatinee" is choreographed by Heidi Duckler, artistic director and founder of Collage Dance Theatre. The show was recently awarded the National Endowment for the Arts' American Masterpiece Award.

First introduced at Thriftiwash Laundromat in Santa Monica in 1988, the site-specific show celebrates the local coin-op as a community gathering place.

Both the performance and rehearsals are free of charge.

Newhall Laundromat is located at 24725 San Fernando Rd., Newhall 91321.
