Why were no elected representatives at rally?

The Honor America/Secure Our Border event on June 28 at the Santa Clarita Civic Center was a first.

It was the first ever fundraiser in the Santa Clarita Valley for former U.S. Border Agent Ignacio Ramos, who was wrongly imprisoned for shooting at and slightly wounding an escaping illegal alien drug dealer near El Paso, Texas, in 2005.

Approximately 200 people attended the event at the amphitheater next to the Valencia Library and contributed to Ramos' wife, Monica Ramos. Most were Santa Claritans.

The audience also heard additional speakers praise the United States of America on the eve of its 232nd birthday.

Absent from the group was any elected official from our city. Not one council member.

Conspicuously absent were council members Frank Ferry, Laurene Weste, Marsha McLean and the newly-elected Laurie Ender. Absent also was Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon.

Mayor Bob Kellar sent me a letter of regret but said that he was in full support of the release of agents Ramos and Jose Compean and was aware of the dreadful impact that illegal aliens have and continue to have on Santa Clarita. Thank you, Mayor Kellar.

Santa Clarita City Council members: What are you afraid of? Why do you not speak up and loudly denounce the impact that illegal aliens have had on our community?

To all political office-holders and want-to-bes: Stand up tall, speak up loudly that illegal immigration is destroying our city, valley, state and country.

I urge all politicos to call for the immediate securing of our borders and protection of our national security, sovereignty and prosperity.
