Assistance League of Santa Clarita Valley celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Footsteps 5K Run/Walk with more than 300 participants "taking their mark" under sunny skies.

The Footsteps 5K is a family-style event with awards three-deep in each division for the 5K Run. The first place male runner was Kyle Robinson, and the first place female runner was Abby Canizales.

Runners, walkers and volunteers participated in the fundraising run to provide much-needed funds for the Operation School Bell program.

"The mission of Operation School Bell is to provide schoolchildren in need with new clothes, jackets, shoes, school supplies and hygiene kits, with the goal of helping kids feel not only better about themselves, but also about going to and staying in school," said Jeannie Carpenter, Assistance League of SCV president. "Our members are stepping up to turn caring and commitment into action."

In addition to the Footsteps 5K, the SCV Assistance League chapter operates the all-volunteer Take Two Resale Shop at 24364 Main St. in downtown Newhall. Proceeds from the Resale Shop and other fundraising events benefit the chapter's philanthropic programs.
