The incident occurred around 7:55 p.m. near the intersection of Merryhill Street and Ashboro Drive, said Sgt. Michael Wright of the Santa Clarita Sheriff's station. The four-year-old girl was reportedly crossing the street while walking toward an ice cream truck when she was hit.
Wright said the child possibly suffered a broken leg and abrasions to her head, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. It is not known if the driver of the car was injured.
The athletic field at nearby Canyon High School served as a staging area for a medical helicopter, which airlifted the girl to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles for treatment.
