It felt more like winter than spring early Thursday with icy conditions closing Interstate 5 through the Grapevine for two hours during the morning commute.

Temperatures were between 28 and 40 degrees at Chuchupate Campground in Frazier Park.

High winds reached gusts up to 50 mph in Saugus and 40 mph at the Newhall Pass throughout the day.

Two trees came down in the Santa Clarita Valley, but didn’t cause damage, and no major power outages were reported to Southern California Edison Co.

Today, temperatures are expected to reach the mid 70s, dipping down to the mid 40s overnight. Winds should reach 25 mph.

The weekend looks to be the same, but Monday is expected to bring temperatures in the 80s.
