A Valencia man was killed early Monday morning after his vehicle crashed into the back of a disabled big rig along the right shoulder of the eastbound Foothill Freeway, officials said.

The 56-year-old man, whose name was not yet released by officials, died at the scene of the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. At about 7:50 a.m., the victim was reportedly driving eastbound on Interstate 210 at La Tuna Canyon Road near Sunland when his vehicle inexplicably collided with the truck.

According to Officer Villalobos, the big rig became disabled and pulled over to the right shoulder, where the driver parked the truck and set out safety reflectors as he waited for assistance. The truck driver was not injured in the collision.

The right lane was closed during the investigation, which is still pending.
