Enjoy your five minutes

Minding my own business, heading to the bank on Valencia Boulevard, I was greatly saddened to observe the worst use of free speech in a very long time.

A small, raggety-tag but nevertheless ranting group of mostly white, middle-aged and elderly individuals were holding poorly worded signs that had everything from hate-mongering for our president and obvious discord about paying taxes, to nonsensical statements about a laundry list of complaints that appeared to originate from a clearly racially motivated viewpoint.

I couldn't help but reflect that for the eight years former President George W. Bush ran this country's deficit up trillions of dollars from a surplus and increased the tax cuts for the very wealthy - thus assuring 99 percent of the country's wealth is held by 1 percent of the population - I never saw any so-called tea party protests.

And don't even get me started on how, by 2008, Bush almost ran this country off a financial cliff in every measurable area.

While some polls are stretching the percentage of those who agree with these Palinesque-Beck-Hannity-GOP followers (actually, who's following who?) to 24 percent, there's still 76 percent who either do not agree or don't care.

Enjoy your five minutes of fame tea people, and please, quit blocking the driveway to my bank on your "protest days."
