Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station's Robbery and Assault team are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Sunday night on 14th Street between Walnut and Chestnut Streets in Newhall.

Two men were critically injured in the shooting.

Deputies responded to the area after a resident called and reported hearing gunshots. When deputies arrived they found one victim, a 49-year-old Hispanic man, lying on the ground. The victim had gunshot wounds to his torso and arm.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department took the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies determined a second gunshot victim, a 39-year-old Hispanic man, had managed to make it to a nearby residence, and he was taken to a local hospital by family members. That victim had gunshot wounds to his torso, arm and leg.

Both victims are in critical condition.

Deputies canvassed the area for the suspect(s) but they were not located. The shooting does not appear to be gang-related.

The investigation is continuing and detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station are seeking public assistance in identifying and locating the suspect(s).

Anyone with any information regarding this incident should immediately contact Detective Pat Murphy (661) 799-5141, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station's Robbery and Assault team.
