Fuel spill closes I-5 offramp

A diesel truck’s oil spill closed Interstate 5’s Valencia offramp for several hours Saturday.

The truck driver smelled diesel fuel while traveling south on I-5 at about 5:20 a.m. Saturday. He exited at Valencia Boulevard. That’s when he saw his truck had a fuel leak and he called California Highway Patrol, Officer Clive Sheen said. The Valencia exit was closed for about five hours, Sheen said. Caltrans used a gravel solvent to soak up about 39 gallons of fuel and shoveled it into two 55-gallon drums. The fuel-soaked gravel will be disposed of at a waste-management facility, Sheen said.
