Another Indian UCLA-Bound

Make it two UCLA Bruins for the Hart softball team.

Indians junior outfielder Devon Lindvall, following the preseason lead of junior left-handed pitcher Destiny Rodino, has committed to play softball for UCLA.
Spurning potential opportunities for scholarships from Stanford, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Minnesota and Cal State Fullerton, Lindvall will join the Bruins as a non-scholarship player with the hopes of earning one.
"It's the place I've always fantasized about going to school," Lindvall said. "When they told me they had a spot on their team for me, I was so excited."
She should have no problem finding her way around.
Lindvall's mother, her two uncles and grandmother on her father's side are all alums of the university.
"I've been going to games there forever," she said. "UCLA has always been the No. 1 school on my list."
Lindvall will join Rodino, catcher Jessica Shults (Oklahoma) and shortstop Melissa Brown (Tennessee) as Hart juniors to commit to high-profile programs.
She might be the most unexpected.
Known for being a speedy leadoff-type player, Lindvall received little playing time for Hart in its 2007 run to the CIF-Southern Section Division I title game, recording only five hits in 40 at-bats as a sophomore.
In the later part of the season, her role was mostly limited to pinch-running opportunities for the Indians.
Lindvall called it a "tough season."
She made the most of increased opportunities on the travel ball circuit and had a strong season to earn the attention of NCAA schools, who Lindvall said have been recruiting her since she broke into high school.
"I've done really well since last year," she said. "I had a really great summer. Hopefully it will lead to some more opportunities this year to show it for Hart."
