The presidential election may be four months away, but those throughout the Santa Clarita Valley who are politically inclined do not have to wait until Nov. 4 to participate in what may be a historic vote. Instead, they can start as soon as this weekend.

Local Democrats will be opening new headquarters in Newhall this week in an effort to promote this year's general election on a local, state and national level.

The Democratic Alliance for Action will be hosting a Volunteer Information Day on Saturday at the new headquarter site, where those interested in participating can learn about ways to be involved throughout the campaign.

Positions available range from volunteer to campaign coordinator opportunities. Volunteer positions, according to organizers, require minimal time commitment and training, though play a vital role in the campaign process.

Conversely, coordinator positions vary in level of responsibility and focus on running the campaign office and helping candidates get elected.

The Volunteer Information Day will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 23119 Lyons Avenue in Newhall.

The following weekend, local Democrats will be hosting an "Obama Meet Up" rally to garner support in the SCV for presumed Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

For more information on both events, please call (661) 877-2775.
