We're not ignorant

This is a follow-up to my letter last week ("‘Stupid' school decision," March 28).

Once again, the school board is stupid. They think we are ignorant. Stating their hands are tied and they did not vote on it - the Parent Advisory Board did - is a lie. There are so many mixed messages and no true answer.

The only thing that is true is all the eighth-graders (except for Castaic) will leave school June 3 with nothing but a report card. No ceremony, no honoring of the honor-roll students, no speeches and no diploma.

That's right parents, nothing. Don't be fooled - your principal and the board are all in this together. Why? Who knows.

All I know is, I was at the board meeting, and it ripped my heart out how many students got up and pleaded with the board to recognize them.

Also, remember this is only temporary, so if you have younger children, they might get a diploma from eighth grade if they attend one of Santa Clarita Valley's junior high schools, but then again maybe they will cut out the seventh and eighth grades altogether since they don't feel it's important.

Editor's note: The decision to cancel eigth-grade promotion ceremonies at Hart district schools was made by district administrators with input from parent advisory groups.
