Denim Day
What: Students, office workers and administrators across the Santa Clarita Valley will be wearing jeans to work or to school to protest sexual violence.
Participants will be asked to make a voluntary contribution to the local Domestic Violence Center as part of the observance.

WIA orientation
Who: Santa Clarita WorkSource
What: Participants learn about the federally funded program that pairs them with a personal case manager and offers the possibility of skills training. The WIA is an employment and retention program initiated to assist those having difficulty finding a job.

Route 66 Bike Night
What: Route 66 Classic Grill holds Bike Night, which includes live music, best bike contest, barbecue and drink specials.

What: It’s a Grind hosts a book signing for “From the Other Side of the Moon: A Novel About California Wildfires”

Cowboy program for adults and teens

What: The Newhall Library presents “Cowboys, Heroes and Legends,” a free program for adults, teens and their families with Christie Lewis, champion trick-roper and versatile Western entertainer in preparation for the upcoming Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival.

Canyon Country Advisory Committee meeting

What: The committee will hear presentations on the cross-valley connector, Santa Clarita’s annual crime statistics and the City Council elections. Advisory committee officer elections are also on the agenda.

Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance
What: The city of Santa Clarita hosts its annual community event to remember SCV youth who have lost their lives in traffic-related collisions and to raise awareness about the importance of safe and responsible driving.

Driver arrested doing 5 mph in a 40 mph zone
FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A 39-year-old driver was pulled over in Farmington this weekend where police said he was doing 5 mph in a 40 mph zone. Police said Isreal Nieves of Bloomfield had the drug PCP in the car and a 9-year-old passenger. He was charged Saturday with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, risk of injury to a minor, driving at a dangerously slow speed and driving without a license.

He was being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and was expected to appear in court on Monday. It could not immediately be determined if he has a lawyer
