The recent state budget cuts have led to a reduction in administrative staff at the Castaic Union School District, forcing the district to make some changes.

Marcia Dains, previously principal of Castaic Middle School, has accepted the position of director of administrative services for the district, and Lisa Bloom, formerly coordinator of special projects, has accepted the position of director of curriculum and instruction.

Dains and Bloom will fill the shoes of three district administrators whose positions were lost through attrition when two of the staffers relocated and one retired.

Dains will assist the superintendent with specific tasks in the business services division, as well as with certain functions within the human resources department. She will also assist both the instructional and business services division with state and local compliance issues.

In her new position, soon to be redesignated as director of instruction and special projects, Bloom will work closely with the assistant superintendent of educational services, Janene Maxon, to move the district out of Program Improvement status through overall improvement of student learning.

Bloom's role with the Gifted and Talented Education and the English Language Learner programs will be expanded, as well as her daily work with the entire instructional program of the district.
