Healthy Cooking & Eating on a Budget

Registered dietitian Stephanie Correnti will conduct a free six-week cooking demonstration and lecture, preparing foods that are high in nutritional value, low in fat, sugar, and salt and taste great. Learn some of the latest info on food topics such as medically required meals, cooking on a budget, and more. 1-2 p.m., through April 23, Bouquet Canyon Senior Apartments, 26705 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus. Certified Hypnotist Therapy Training Class

Taught by Dr. Michael Holt, NC, CHt, this two-hour weekly class will cover introduction, history and suggestibility, six basic induction types, deepening, testing, post-hypnotic suggestion, potential dangers and ethical issues, stress management and self-hypnosis and certification exam. Cost of the class is $500, $400 without certification. 6-8 p.m., beginning May 6 and runs through August 26. Seniors receive discount with proof of age.

Santa Clarita Swing Jazz Club

Wednesday, May 5 — “Mental illness and the education, support, and advocacy that NAMI offers families and individuals,” presented by Zee Dankworth of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Wednesday, May 12 — “Living with arthritis,” presented by geriatrician Dr. Sabita Malla from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Wednesday, May 19 — “Homeopathy: Health and wellness for the body, mind and soul,” presented by holistic practitioner Kim Wahl of Valencia Wellness Center.
Wednesday, May 26 — “Osteoporosis: Prevention and Treatment,” presented by Dr. Amy Goff of HealthCare Partners Group.

Health Clinics
Free blood pressure screening takes place in activity Room 3 each Wednesday from noon-1 p.m.
Wednesday — Hearing Clinic with audiologist Nola Aronson of Audiology Associates, who will provide free hearing checks, 11 a.m.-noon. Primarily for those not currently wearing hearing aids.
May 5 — Free glucose (blood sugar) testing provided by registered dietitian Lori Robinson, 11 a.m.-noon. Please refrain from eating three hours before test.
May 19 — Free hearing checks provided by Audiology Services of Newhall’s Randall Bartlett, 11 a.m. - noon. Primarily for people who do no wear hearing aids.
