A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man on the Fourth of July, according to Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Christopher Aguirre was arrested and charged with possession of illegal fireworks, as well for alcohol possession for someone under 21, Bryski said.

The incident occurred Friday around 4 p.m. at Newhall Avenue and 14th Street in Newhall. Deputies pulled over the vehicle in which Aguirre was a passenger in after the driver reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the lieutenant.

The driver, who was a juvenile, was driving without a license, Bryski said. Two other passengers were also juveniles. Deputies searched the vehicle and reportedly found bottles of alcohol, a small bag of marijuana and illegal fireworks.

Aguirre was arrested and the others were given citations. He is being held at the station.
