The Santa Clarita Valley Chapter of the Independent Pool & Spa Service Association (IPSSA) will host a booth at the Santa Clarita Earth/Arbor Day Festival. The booth will be part of the Energy Zone at the festival, to be held on Saturday, April 17 in Newhall Park.

IPSSA professionals will be on hand to discuss the health and environmental benefits of regular maintenance of a swimming pool. Regular service that maintains the chemistry of a pool at levels recommended by the Health Department. Irregular service often results in wild fluctuations in chlorine levels.

This instability may be unhealthy, and the service technician usually has to add even more chemicals in order to restore balance to the pool. This increases demand for chemical manufacturing and shipment, which can be damaging to the environment. IPSSA members are trained in techniques to maintain the proper chemistry of your swimming pool.

Many pool owners do not realize that small changes to their pools mean big changes for the environment. Next to air conditioners, swimming pool pumps use the most energy at a typical house. New variable-speed pump technology reduces the amount of energy needed to move water through a pools filter and heater, reducing the pool owners electric bill every month.

Pool owners installing the new pumps are eligible for a $300 rebate from their utility company. New LED lights for swimming pools also reduce electricity and last 10 times longer than traditional lights.

Many pool owners will install solar systems for their pool to further reduce their energy bill. Whether to help heat the pool or as part of a whole-house system, solar is one more environment-friendly improvement to your pool.

The Independent Pool and Spa Service Association, Inc. exists for the mutual professional benefit and growth of its members and for the continued improvement of the pool and spa industry. IPSSA members abide by a code of ethics and are the leading professionals for pool service and maintenance.
