Senior Center offers free lectures and clinics in May

On Wednesday, May 5, "Mental Illness and the Education, Support, and Advocacy that NAMI Offers Families and Individuals," will be the subject of a presentation by Zee Dankworth of NAMI - the National Alliance on Mental Illness from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Activity Rooms 1 & 2 of the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, Newhall 91321.

Other Consumer Lectures for May at the SCV Senior Center will be:

* Wednesday, May 12: "Living with Arthriis," will be presented by Geriatrician Dr. Sabita Malla from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital (May is National Arthritis Awareness Month).

* Wednesday, May 19: "Homeopathy: Health and Wellness for Body, Mind, and Soul," will be presented by Holistic Practitioner Kim Wahl of The Valencia Wellness Center.

* Wednesday, May 26: "Osteoporosis: Prevention and Treatment," will be presented by Dr. Amy Goff of HealthCare Partners Medical Group.

All lectures are from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Activity Rooms 1 & 2 of the SCV Senior Center.

In addition, the following free health clinics will be offered at the SCV Senior Center in May. All will take place in Room A6 unless indicated otherwise:

* Wednesday, May 5: Free glucose (blood sugar) testing provided by Registered Dietitian Lori Robinson from 11 .m. to noon in room A6. Please refrain from eating within three hours of test.

* Wednesday, May 19: Free hearing checks provided by Audiology Services of Newhall's Randall Bartlett from 11 a.m. to noon in room A6. Note: Hearing exams are primarily for people who do NOT wear hearing aids - however, the audiologist welcomes all hearing-related questions.

* Every Wednesday: Free blood pressure checks performed by registered nurses, noon-1 p.m.
