Placerita Junior High School seventh-graders Shelly Peer and Michelle Kummer used their 10 hours of community service for Junior Honor Society to make 15 dresses for girls in Africa.

The straight-A students went door-to-door in their Valencia neighborhood to collect pillowcases and materials for the dresses.

Interest in the project spread as the girls gathered more donations and quickly finished their 10 hours of community service.

Their moms, Kathy Peer and Wanda Kummer, helped them double the time to make more dresses.

The girls hope that the project will be picked up by a church group or local organization so they can make more dresses.
