Senior Center offers free lectures and clinics in April

April is National Stress Awareness Month, and on Wednesday, April 14, "Beating Stress Before it Beats You" will be presented by Dr. Ronald Schwartz from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Other consumer lectures for February at the SCV Senior Center will be:

* Wednesday, April 21: "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender: Promoting Understanding and Compassion," will be presented by Psychotherapist Rosanna Santos. Community and LGBT family members are encouraged to attend.

* Wednesday, April 28: Facey Medical Group Health Educator/Registered Dietitian Loree Searcy will discuss "Pre-Diabetes."

All lectures are from 1-2 p.m. in Activity Rooms 1 & 2 of the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street.

In addition, the following free health clinics will be offered at the SCV Senior Center in February All will take place in Room A6:
* Thursday, April 1: Foot Exams: Podiatrist Dr. Shane Rhodes of Canyon Foot Care Podiatry Group will provide free foot screenings from 11 a.m.-noon; screenings only-no treatments such as nail-cutting, callous removal, etc.

* Wednesday, April 14: Blood Sugar/Diabetes Clinic: Registered Dietitian Lori Robinson will provide free blood sugar testing from 11 a.m. to noon on in the Day Care Office. Do not eat for three hours prior to test.

* Wednesday, April 21: Hearing Clinic: Audiologist Nola Aronson of Audiology Associates will provide hearing checks from 11 a.m.-noon. Exams primarily for people who do NOT wear hearing aids, although the audiologist welcomes hearing-related questions from everyone.

* Every Wednesday: Free blood pressure checks performed by registered nurses, noon-1 p.m.
