The true debate

Regarding “Candidates clash at forum” (The Signal, April 7):

In the early 1970s, 25 acres of land was donated to the citizens of Santa Clarita to build a nonprofit hospital for the community. The true debate by the candidates should ask why a for-profit Beverly Hills developer is now on the verge of owning most (if not all) of this donated community land.

The founders of Santa Clarita were committed to establishing balance among government, business and the community, allowing frank and fair discussion of growth and development.

During the forum, insults of “dishonest” and “disingenuous” were hurled, ignoring the role government plays in protecting the interests of their citizens.

We the people should be enraged, not only of this lack of governmental protection of our rights, but also by the lack of debate and acknowledgement of this fundamental moral and ethical issue: Donated land to the community for a nonprofit hospital should not be allowed to be shuffled into the hands of a for-profit developer.
