The Archdiocese of Los Angeles bought an ad in today’s Signal to respond to the newspaper’s Thursday article, which reported on parents’ concerns over a local Catholic church’s new pastor who had been accused of sexual abuse.

The ad appears on page A3 today.

Archdiocese officials declined to speak to a reporter Thursday and did not return reporters’ calls on Tuesday and Wednesday concerning Rev. Richard Martini, who is set to become the pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Newhall.

A prison inmate had accused Martini of fondling him when he was a boy in the early 1990s, but no criminal charges were filed. A civil suit against the Archdiocese naming several priests, including Martini, was settled for $60 million.
