When I look to buy a product or service, I search for the gold seal of approval. Voters should do the same thing when deciding which candidates to vote for.

While many of America's institutions have been failing us - Wall Street, Washington and Sacramento - the city of Santa Clarita has continued to prosper despite severe state budget cuts.

Santa Clarita City Council members Laurene Weste, Frank Ferry and Marsha McLean have managed our city through conservative, fiscal management principles and main street values that reflect a commitment to families, youth and our seniors.

Their outstanding records earned Weste, Ferry and McLean the endorsement of the Republican Party of Los Angeles County. This is the official GOP endorsement.

After examining their record it is easy to see why they are the only endorsed Republicans in the race.

Public safety
Santa Clarita is one of America's safest cities. Weste, Ferry and McLean have supported additional funding for our Sheriff's and Fire Departments and have encouraged enhanced programs to assist our youth, fight gangs and graffiti. If our children, neighborhoods and seniors are not safe, nothing else matters.

Their support of public safety has garnered them the endorsement of the Professional Peace Officers Association and the support of Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.

Improving traffic flow
This spring the city completed the $245 million cross-valley connector. This 8 1/2-mile road provides a vital link between Interstate 5 and Highway 14 Freeway. Police and firefighters now have this thoroughfare to react to emergencies caused by truck accidents, earthquake or wildfire. Commuters benefit from a second east/west corridor through the valley.

Also, Weste, Ferry and McLean have helped improve traffic flow by timing signal lights on major streets like McBean Parkway, Magic Mountain Parkway, Soledad Canyon Road and Valencia Boulevard.

Local, high-paying jobs
Weste, Ferry and McLean support the new public/private partnership of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corp. which is dedicated to assisting local businesses grow as well as attract new employers to our community. This will improve our city's jobs-to-housing ratio, reduce pollution and improve the lives of those residents who won't have to commute outside our valley.

Balancing the budget
Weste, Ferry and McLean produced a balanced budget and maintained a 15 percent budget reserve despite draconian cuts from Sacramento. They understand families need to balance their checkbooks and so does the city.

If needed, they are committed to cut sufficient spending to continue balancing the city's budget. Weste, Ferry and McLean will continue to do more with less and maintain high-quality services without imposing taxes on residents or businesses.

Stopping urban sprawl
The city's Open Space Preservation District has acquired more than 4,000 acres that will be protected as natural parkland. This green belt around the city will be preserved forever, preventing any future development.

Families will not have to leave the Santa Clarita Valley to enjoy hiking, fishing and the great outdoors. And the green belt around the city will save our community from urban sprawl.

Quality health care
Weste, Ferry and McLean supported the expansion of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, our valley's only hospital. The master plan will allow the hospital and the community to grow together.

Highlights include building a helipad so the hospital can continue as a life-saving trauma center, increasing the number of hospital beds and adding parking structures to make parking more convenient.

This plan will allow our nonprofit community hospital to expand services such as the upcoming Neo-Natal Care Unit and more centers of excellence like the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center.

Weste, Ferry and McLean are also endorsed by our GOP leaders including Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon, Sen. George Runner, Sen. Tony Strickland and Assemblyman Cameron Smyth.

Don't be fooled by false advertising and misleading labels. When you cast your vote on Tuesday, remember the only candidates earning the gold seal of approval are Santa Clarita City Council members Laurene Weste, Frank Ferry and Marsha McLean.
