A Santa Clarita parolee, allegedly carrying a grudge toward the Yum Yum Donuts shop on Soledad Canyon road in Canyon Country, is being held without bail after being accused of trashing the business and causing damage to two cash registers, authorities said Thursday.

An employee spotted Edward Gilhooley, 20, trying to leave the store around 2 a.m. Wednesday without paying for a box of doughnuts he hid under his sweatshirt, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Darren Harris.

When the employee told Gilhooley to stop, the suspect began kicking chairs and knocking the registers to the ground in an attempt to open the drawer, causing thousands of dollars in damage, Harris said.

Gilhooley allegedly shouted profanities before the employee pinned him to the ground and called deputies.
