A 47-year-old man whose body was found earlier this week in Gorman was apparently a homicide victim, authorities said.

Coroner’s officials have yet to release the man’s name.

Detectives did not yet know where the man was from or living, and authorities were withholding his name pending notification of his next of kin, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Don Slawson.

Slawson said a man who was walking his dogs found the body around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday behind some brush on the side of a dirt road at the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area. The state recreation area sits about 20 miles north of the Santa Clarita Valley.

“(The victim) had been there a while,” Slawson said. “We don’t necessarily believe the murder took place there.”

Slawson confirmed that the man did not work at the state recreation area.
