For the third straight summer and fourth time in the past five passing league seasons, Valencia reached the finals of the Air Assault Bonita Passing League Tournament.

Unlike the past two seasons, the Vikings could not pull off another championship, coming close but losing to Rancho Verde of Moreno Valley on Saturday at Bonita High School in La Verne.

The final score was not available as of press time.

Hart High had a pretty successful Saturday as well in the tournament, winning the consolation finals by trouncing Corona, 24-6.

The Indians also beat Jurupa Valley, La Serna and Barstow, losing only to AB Miller of Fontana.

"Our kids stepped up today," Hart High School head coach Mike Herrington said. "You could say we're in a bit of a rebuilding year. We have new players in at quarterback, running backs, all-new linebackers. We're going to take some hits, that's what summer's for."

After finishing 2-3 on Friday, Hart went 4-1 on Saturday.

Canyon High School played in a passing league tournament at Conejo High on Saturday, but results were also unavailable late Saturday night.
