The city of Santa Clarita is pleased to announce that its newly redesigned Permit Center at City Hall will soon include a representative from the Los Angeles County Fire Department to handle Fuel Modifications.

The representative will be on hand Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to assist customers with Fuel Modification permit needs.

"Residents and businesses require Fuel Modification plans when building a new house or large addition in an area that is vulnerable to brush fires," said City Building Official Ruben Barrera. "A Fuel Modification plan helps to ensure that a site's proposed landscaping does not create adverse fire conditions, or have the potential to ‘fuel' a brush fire."

When the Los Angeles County Fire representative joins the city's Permit Center, community members and local businesses will be able to submit Fuel Modification plans with more ease than ever before. By including a Fire Department representative at City Hall, Permit Center customers will no longer need to make the previously-required trip to the Fire Department's Azusa office for Fuel Modification needs.

Located on the first floor of City Hall in Suite 140, the city's new Permit Center includes City Planning, Engineering, Building & Safety, and Traffic in one convenient location. The new Permit Center is designed to save residents and businesses time, while dramatically improving communication between city departments.

City Hall is located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.
