AZUSA, Calif. -- Students from 4th through 12th grades including students from the Saugus Union School District attended "History Day L.A." at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa on Saturday, March 13.

Students from schools throughout Los Angeles County gathered for the event, which is part of a national program.

The students were encouraged to prepare posters, exhibits, papers, performences, and other visual effects that relate to the year's theme.

This year's theme was "Innovation in History" and the projects were judged by the community and social science professionals. The students' involvement will provide opportunities for personal academic achievement.

Highlands Elementary and James Foster Elementary schools' 4th and 5th graders attended from the Saugus Union District.

The schools competed in the individual and group poster categories in which Cassie Fitzgerald, Margaux Tolley and Avery Hazard from James Foster Elementary school won honorable mention for their poster titled "Photography: Drawing Light Through History."
