Senior Center offers free lectures, health clinics in April

The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center will offer another round of free consumer lectures and health clinics in April.

Here is a calendar of events:

Consumer lectures
April 7
"What Seniors Won't Tell You About Their Mental Health," presented by Michael Dougherty of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Behavioral Health Unit.

April 14
"Beating Stress before It Beats You," presented by Dr. Ronald Schwartz from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. April is National Stress Awareness Month.

April 21
"Common Foot Disorders," presented by podiatrist and wound-care specialist Dr. John Halebian, DPM, from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

April 28
Facey Medical Group Health Educator/Registered Dietitian Loree Searcy will discuss "Pre-Diabetes."

All lectures are from 1-2 p.m. in Activity Rooms 1 and 2 at the SCV Senior Center.

April health clinics
April 1: Foot exams
Podiatrist Dr. Shane Rhodes of Canyon Foot Care Podiatry Group will provide free foot screenings from 11 a.m. to noon in the Day Care Office. Screenings only - no treatments such as nail-cutting, callous removal, etc. will be provided.

April 14: Blood sugar/diabetes clinic
Registered Dietitian Lori Robinson will provide free blood sugar testing from 11 a.m. to noon in the Day Care Office. Do not eat for three hours prior to test.

April 21: Hearing clinic
Audiologist Nola Aronson of Audiology Associates will provide hearing checks from 11 a.m. to noon in the Day Care Office. Exams are primarily for people who do not wear hearing aids, although the audiologist welcomes hearing-related questions from everyone.

Every Wednesday: Free blood pressure checks
Registered nurses will perform free blood pressure checks from noon to 1 p.m. in the Day Care office.
