Shakespeare Fest sets auditions for 'The Tempest'

Play opens in July at Canyon Theatre Guild

The Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival will hold auditions for its summer production of "The Tempest" on March 26 and 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Canyon Theatre Guild.

The production opens the second week in July and runs through the end of the month. Directing this year's production is award-winning director Mark McQuown.

Actors are asked to prepare at least one monologue or be prepared to read.

The Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival is a newly organized company dedicate to bringing Shakespeare in the Park to the community, and providing educational programs for local residents and students.

"There are some very exciting things in store for this summer." said David Stears, executive director of the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival.

Originally presented by Santa Clarita Repertory Theatre, Shakespeare in the Park has endured for more than 20 years. Recently, the Shakespeare in the Park has been a collaborative effort of the Canyon Theatre Guild and the REP East Playhouse. Shakespeare in the Park founder David Stears, has directed the shows for the last two years.

After the 20th anniversary last year, Stears founded the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival to focus on bring a full-fledged summer festival to the SCV.

They're also looking for volunteers and technical support for the festival. If you are interested, come to the audition or send an e-mail to scshakespearefest@yahoo.com. We need box office and house management staff, set building, concessions, security, and special events support. There are many opportunities to get involved this summer.
