Valencia residents Merit Leighton, a 7-year-old actress, and her sister Marlowe Peyton, a 5-year-old actress and singer, were honored with a Child Actor Recognition Event (CARE) Award during a red-carpet ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood on March 14.

Merit has been modeling since she was 6 months old in catalogs and ad campaigns, but at the age of 6 years old, she began her television and film career.

Merit is a previous CARE award recipient and is thrilled to be receiving her second award recognizing her appearances in several national commercials.

Marlowe began her career at the age of 4.

She is being honored for her work in the feature film “The Back Up Plan” with Jennifer Lopez, on The Jay Leno Show and in an independent short film called “At What Price.”

CARE Awards are based on a unique point system where young performers (18 and younger) must qualify with a combination of professional acting work in 2009, academics, union membership, training, a written essay, community service, parent industry knowledge and several other criteria.

Merit and Marlowe are very passionate about helping their planet and created “The Plastic Patrol” www.theplasticpatrol.org in order to begin their global effort to make a difference one kid at a time.
