‘It’s a federal problem’

I am not surprised our local politicians (with the exception of City Councilman Bob Kellar) claim they can’t do anything about illegal immigration because, as they often say, “it’s a federal problem.”

Bank robbery is a “federal problem,” as well.

So next time a report of a bank robbery alarm comes in, instead of sending a few sheriff’s deputies, why not just call the FBI? After all, it’s a federal problem. Rolling a few radio cars costs time and money; why should we have to pay for it?

That would save money and, after all, we are in budget crisis.

When I had problems with Time Warner Cable, a City Council member told me she could do nothing about it because they are regulated by the FCC and therefore “it’s a federal problem.”

Getting no help from the city, I filed a lawsuit against Time Warner in October 2001 and won. Where was the city on that one?

We have a National Highway Safety Administration and, therefore, traffic safety is a federal problem as well. Tell that to the local cop that cites you for some minor violation.

It seems to me if we put up cameras on poles to peer into the cars of red light runners to cite them for violating traffic laws, then we can put up cameras on poles to peer on the outside of homes to cite homeowners for local code violations for overcrowding of residences.

But that will never happen. We might be called racists.

There is a lot we can do at the local level to curb illegal immigration here in Santa Clarita, which, by the way, costs local taxpayers lots of money.

The first thing we should do is throw out our City Council members who use the mantra “it’s a federal problem.”

They are a local problem.

God bless you, Bob Kellar. You stood up for all the taxpayers here in Santa Clarita. We are tired of being ripped off due to a “federal problem.”
