Women throughout the Santa Clarita Valley interested in becoming a sheriff's deputy will have a chance to see if they are qualified at a recruitment fair Saturday.

The county Sheriff's Department is hosting a recruitment career fair aimed at women seeking a career in law enforcement. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to take the first step in becoming a sheriff's deputy or explore similar law enforcement careers at this weekend's fair, which will be held at the S.T.A.R. Center in Whittier, located at 11515 S. Colima Road.

Named "Women Empowering Women," the Women in Law Enforcement Career Day 2008 will offer on-site testing to be deputy sheriff trainees and oral interviews.

Deputy trainee positions are available across the county.

The recruitment fair will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The on-site testing will start at 10 a.m., and individual oral interviews will take place immediately after.

For more information, interested candidates are urged to contact the county Sheriff's Department at (800) A-DEPUTY or visit www.lasd.org. Reservations for the recruitment fair may be made over the phone.
