The end of America?

With massive yearly deficits the new norm, we have passed the crossroads and are heading down the path to ruin. What the Democrat Party — a wholly owned subsidiary of the public employee unions — has done for the city of Los Angeles and the state of California, it is now doing for the country as a whole.

As Edward Gibbon noted in his landmark work, “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,” this is how the Roman Empire, which dominated the world for 1,500 years, was bankrupted into collapse.

Consider the words from “The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic,” published in 1776 by Alexander Fraser Tytler, a Scottish professor of history at Edinburgh: “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (money-benefits) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

Only a return to a strict interpretation of the Constitution, a la the tea party principles, can right our path.
