Healthy Local Products Day

How do you take your passion for health and a great idea from personal dream to a place in the local market?
This question and more will be put to four local entrepreneurs who have done just that.

On Saturday, March 6, Whole Foods Market will host a Local Vendor Day featuring local products and their creators, and will moderate a panel discussion with Jamie Alba of Sisley Restaurants and his new vegetarian frozen food line "Life Foods"; Jerry Gonzalez, owner of "Maria Elena's Authentic Latino Inc." and "Spun City Organic Cotton Candy"; Jeff Cohen, creator of "Granola Gourmet" granola bars for diabetics and everyone; and Chef Gerard Turbush of "Chef Gerard and Chuck's Salsa."

All these products are carried in Whole Foods Markets through their Local Vendor Program, and meet their strict ingredient guidelines including no artificial colors, flavors, sweetener or hydrogenated fats.

The panel will review how consumers can become a part of the increasingly popular local food movement, which helps reduce the industry's carbon footprint by sourcing ingredients close to home, rather than focusing on imported goods, which use an excessive amount of fuel for transportation.

Local Vendor Day, Saturday, March 6, noon-3 p.m. Panel discussion 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Whole Foods Market, 24130 Valencia Blvd., Valencia, Info: (661) 260-2377. RSVP to Tina Landrum at Ext. 210.
