LOS ANGELES -- Junior Blind of America, a nonprofit dedicated to helping children and adults who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled achieve independence, today announced that legendary singer songwriter Stevie Wonder has joined the organization's Board of Directors.

"Stevie has been a dedicated friend and supporter of Junior Blind's children and families for two decades. We are thrilled he is taking this next step to build on his longstanding commitment to improving the lives of people who are living with visual impairments and other disabilities," says Miki Jordan, President of Junior Blind.

In December, 2009, the United Nations designated Mr. Wonder as a Messenger of Peace, with a special focus on people with disabilities, an honor that celebrates Wonder's commitment to inspiring people all over the world to achieve their dreams, despite any physical limitations.

For more than five decades, Junior Blind has been an innovative leader in providing support and services to hundreds of thousands of infants, children, teens and adults who are blind or multi-disabled blind and their family members. Through his commitment to Junior Blind, Mr. Wonder has inspired countless children and families, making special appearances at the organization's Children's Holiday Carnival and offering heartfelt donations on behalf of his We Are You Foundation.

Blind since birth and a star since childhood, Stevie Wonder has touched millions of lives worldwide not only through his musical genius, but also through his tireless contributions as a humanitarian, championing people with disabilities and basic human rights for people everywhere.
