Kellar deserves support

While no longer a resident of Santa Clarita, my 30-year stay in that community produced a connection that remains with me.

And I try to maintain that connection when time allows; the fact that my dentist practices there provides me with such an opportunity.

Besides, I have a great affection for the area.

Recently, while having lunch with an old friend, I was apprised of the Bob Kellar “incident,” and I was appalled.

Appalled that such a good man should be exposed to such outrageous behavior — apparently on the part of not just his foes, but some of his “fair weather” friends as well.

Let me set the record straight: Kellar is a good and decent man, a concerned and involved citizen and a patriot.

All that he said — when his words are properly construed — was that he opposed “illegal” immigration.

Now, any one with half a brain and an ounce of patriotism has to feel the same way. There is nothing “racist” in this sentiment; it merely expresses a concern for the perpetuation of our sovereignty.

One may quibble with the words that Kellar chose to express that sentiment, but the meaning of his statement is quite clear and is in no way racist.

I expect such absurd attacks from the left; it is, after all, what they do best.

To them, illegals, radical Muslims or any other threat to our sovereignty is not troublesome.

To them, Republicans are the enemy, and that is why the country is losing ground.

But the shameless behavior of the left concerns me far less than the cowardly behavior of those on the right who have abandoned Kellar.

Unfortunately, I have come to expect no less from either side.

The left confuses audacity with courage; the right confuses cowardice with good manners and is always ready to run from a fight.

That has been my greatest disappointment as a Republican; quite simply we have absolutely no guts.

We will quite readily throw our guys — even good guys like Kellar — under the bus, while the left will circle the wagons around any dirt bag. And that is why Republicans lose when they should not; they’re afraid to fight.

Go Kellar, many of us are right behind you.
