The city of Santa Clarita, along with Southern California Edison and College of the Canyon, invite residents to attend "Fire in California: Friend or Foe?" The informative presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at College of the Canyons' Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.

Fire in California: Friend or Foe is the first in a new Speakers' Series at the Performing Arts Center and is designed to address whether fires are necessary to save forest ecosystems. The presentation will feature nationally recognized forest management experts John R. Mount and Stephen Byrd, who will detail their holistic approach to forest management.

"The city of Santa Clarita is no stranger to fires, with the Station Fire fresh in community members' memories," said Mayor Laurene Weste. "This informative presentation at the College of the Canyons will help to shed light on what can be done to prevent fires, while keeping in mind their ecological benefits."

Topics discussed at the Fire in California presentation will include managed burns, thinning, planting and more.

The College of the Canyons' Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.
