The Price Wa$ Right

Kerianne Mowry of Valencia won a 2008 Jeep Cherokee Jan. 7 on "The Price is Right," in addition to a Lang dinette set. Mowry will receive her prize from a local dealer within 30 days of Wednesday's air date at 10 a.m. on CBS.

At that moment, all Kerianne Mowry could do was stand onstage and stare at the 2008 "detonator yellow" Jeep Wrangler she had just won for a buck on "The Price is Right."

"I was having an out-of-body experience. I just couldn't believe it," she said. "I won the Lucky $even game."
Mowry was in the audience with her mother when she was chosen to "come on down!"
"I didn't think it was me," she said. "I was convinced there was another 'Kerianne Mowry' on the show. My mom was literally pushing me out of the seat."
Lucky $even has to be the most frequently played car game. The contestant is given seven $1 bills to start the game and then must guess the digits in the price of the car. As long as the contestant has one dollar remaining after the last digit is revealed, the contestant can purchase the car with that $1.
Mowry said her mom, Crystal Hyde, a registered nurse in Fairhope, Ala., is a certified "Price is Right" fanatic.
"When she came out for Christmas, all she could talk about was going on the show," Mowry said. "For 25 years, she has watched it religiously; she tapes it and fast forwards through the commercials; that is her church. So I told her, 'Mom, you will be crushed if you come out and not go on the show.'"
So at dawn on Jan. 7, Mowry and her mother drove to CBS Studios and stood in line with 320 other hopefuls for the 1 p.m. taping. They were briefly interviewed by the producers but didn't know they had made the short list of contestants. Halfway through the show, Mowry was chosen for the panel.
"By now, my mom has already told the whole state of Alabama," Mowry said.
Mowry lives in Valencia with her husband, Brad, and their two children, Bradi, 12 and Crosby, 7.
"You don't see too many people from Valencia go on 'The Price is Right.' Maybe we think we are too cool," Mowry said. "But this is like the best game show ever and Drew Carey is a very nice person; he grabbed my hand and walked me over to the wheel. He is really personable like that. He asked me if I wanted to say 'Hello' to anyone and I said, 'Hi, Bradi, hi, Crosby,' and forgot about my husband," Mowry said. "But when you are in the spotlight like that, you have like 20 cameras in your face, and I was blind."
Mowry does not win the Jeep that was on the show, but will pick one up within 30 days of the show date at a local dealership.
She said after the show, she and her mom had a nice day out together. "I didn't call Brad and he had no idea we had won," she said. "I didn't want to call him, but wanted to surprise him, but he was frantic! I told him, 'Out of 320 people, they only choose nine ... and I was one of them!'"
Mowry describes herself as a devoted PTA mom who is more comfortable organizing school events than being on TV.
"I have never won anything like that before. Everything I do is for my kids," she said. "But I grew up watching 'The Price is Right,' and it is such a dream come true."
The episode featuring Kerianne Mowry will air Wednesday at 10 a.m. PST on CBS
