Interested in teaching English to foreign language speakers? Earning a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) Certificate is easier than ever. The College of the Canyons Interim University Center is making a TESOL certificate program available through a series of UCLA extension courses.

With a shortage of qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers, COC will qualify students that finish the TESOL program to teach non-credit ESL courses at COC.

COC is offering the TESOL program for the first time this summer. The first course in the program, "Applied Methods in Teaching English Language Development," will meet on Saturdays from July 12 through August 16 and offers 4.5 credits. Registration fees are $450.

Subsequent courses will take place during the fall 2008 quarter. Thirty-six quarter units are required for certification. Working adults can accommodate their schedules with classes in the evenings, on weekends, or even online.

Call (310) 825-4581 or visit www.uclaextension.edu/teachers for more information.
