A Santa Clarita man was arrested Saturday after allegedly backing over two people in a Saugus parking lot and fleeing the scene.

William Skett, 34, was arrested at his home and booked on a felony charge of hit and run, said sheriff's Lt. Tom Bryskie. Skett was released on bond Saturday. Bryskie said Skett allegedly hit two people in the parking lot near Mabel's Roadhouse at the corner of Bouquet and Soledad canyon roads, around 1:45 a.m.

"Apparently he just backed over the peole and left," Bryskie said. He said Skett was arrested at home after deputies looked up the registration of the offending vehicle.

The two victims were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Bryskie said, and added one victim was treated and released, while the other was undergoing surgery for multiple broken ribs and two collapsed lungs. No further information was available about the victims.

A woman who asked that her name not be used said she was part of a crowd of people in the parking lot. She said a woman bore the brunt of the injuries, while the man was hit, yelling for the vehicle to stop. She said the driver of the Hummer hit a man and woman while backing out of a parking spot. Someone got out of the vehicle to call 911, she said, and then apparently everyone in the Hummer fled the scene on foot.

Anyone with information about the collision can call Detective Jeff Maag at (661) 799-5112.
